History

Community leadership development programs are used nationwide to assist in strengthening and developing strong and productive community leaders. In 2000, representatives from the Millbrook, Tallassee and Wetumpka Area Chambers of Commerce met with educators at the Elmore County office of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System to design a leadership program that would fit the needs of Elmore County residents. The Leadership Elmore County program began in September of 2001 with a class of 20 individuals. At present, the program is made up of 218 graduates from 15 classes, plus the members of the original steering committee.

Mission

The mission of Leadership Elmore County is to identify and develop leaders who are committed to community and county growth and progress, who are willing to participate in a process whereby their skills and opportunities for involvement can be enhanced, and to develop a network of relationships to seek a better understanding of the issues and opportunities facing Elmore County.
